Steve Smiley

Steve Smiley has over 30 years of experience with investing and financing privately held, middle-market companies.
He joined the Hunt organization in 1996 to better articulate the company's strategies for private equity investing. In 1998, Hunt Private Equity Group launched the Lafayette Investment Fund, LP, a $107.5 million private equity fund dedicated to investing in growth-oriented, middle-market businesses.
Prior to joining Hunt, Smiley was president and CEO of Cypress Capital
Corporation, now Hoak Capital Corporation, a private equity firm he co-founded in 1991. Cypress raised and managed a $20 million buyout fund. He was also with Citicorp for 15 years as a commercial banker and as a private equity investor, consistently focused on the middle-market.
Smiley is a member of the board of directors of Petrohawk Energy Corporation (NYSE: HK) and Dynamex, Inc. (NASDAQ: DDMX), as well as the boards of Universal Companies and Ginsey Industries, Inc., both Hunt Investment Group portfolio companies. He is on the board of trustees of the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, the board of managers of the Alumni Association of the University of Virginia and is chairman of the Arts Council at the University of Virginia.
Smiley received a BA from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the College of William and Mary where he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. He also served for three years as an officer in the US Navy.
